Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Golaghat, Assam recalled that India’s oil industry began in Digboi in 1901. He said PM Modi has now dedicated the world’s first second-generation bamboo-based bioethanol plant, built at a cost of ₹5,000 crore. The plant will process 5 lakh tons of bamboo annually to produce 50,000 tons of bioethanol, along with green byproducts for pharma, food processing, and speciality chemicals, boosting MSMEs and startups.
