Puri strongly condemned the use of the word ‘traitor’ against Bittu, whose grandfather, former Punjab CM Beant Singh, was assassinated. ‘To label anyone from any community with the characterization of being a traitor is unacceptable, but all the more so when that person comes from a family which is itself paid a price,’ Puri stated. He highlighted the contributions of the Sikh community to India’s armed forces and criticized the Congress party’s history, including the 1984 riots and the desecration of the Golden Temple. Puri emphasized that parliamentary discourse, whether inside or outside the House, must remain grounded in decency and dignified language. The Minister also questioned the contradiction in Gandhi’s stance, noting that the Leader of Opposition reportedly asked Bittu to return to the party while simultaneously labeling him a traitor.
