A controversy has erupted at the Guruvayur temple in Kerala after non-Hindu blogger and former Bigg Boss contestant, Jasmine Jaffer, filmed reels at the temple pond. The temple bars non-Hindus from its premises and prohibits the shooting of reels. Temple authorities stated the pond turned impure due to the breach of law and have initiated purification rituals, which include repeating six days of pujas. The temple board has also filed a sacrilege complaint against the influencer. Jaffer has deleted the reels and issued an apology, claiming unawareness of the rules. An activist speaking on the matter stated, "Every temple has its own unique systems, acharas and anushtanas, as we call it, and they have a right under Article 25 and 26 to carry out these purifications and regulations."
