Morbi’s ceramic industry has announced a 25-day shutdown as a propane gas shortage disrupts manufacturing operations. The Gujarat town, known as one of the world’s largest ceramic hubs, has seen hundreds of units halt production due to rising costs and uncertainty in fuel supply.
The shutdown has affected thousands of workers, with many migrant labourers returning to their hometowns as factories remain closed. Industry bodies said operations will resume only after gas availability improves.
The disruption, linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict, has also impacted allied sectors such as transport, raw material supply and trading. Stakeholders are now exploring solutions to stabilise fuel supply and restart production.
