Canada formally inaugurated its first diplomatic mission in Greenland as a high-level delegation, including Governor General Mary Simon and Foreign Minister Anita Anand, visited Nuuk. Anand said the new consulate reflects Canada’s long-term commitment to stand with Greenland and Denmark. France opened its own consulate on the same day, expanding its diplomatic presence in Greenland, where previously only Iceland and the United States maintained consular services. The developments come as Trump later softened his remarks, saying he was exploring a potential deal following discussions with Denmark, European allies and Canada.
