A woman in Greater Noida, identified as Nikki, died after being set on fire, allegedly by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. The incident took place in front of her seven-year-old son. Her husband, Vipin Bhati, and mother-in-law have been arrested. The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the case, directing the UP police to submit an action report. The victim’s family has accused the in-laws of prolonged harassment and demands for dowry, including a Mercedes car. Showing no remorse, the accused husband denied his involvement, stating, “I didn’t kill her… Fights happen between husband and wife.” The case, supported by video evidence showing the assault and the victim engulfed in flames, has sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against dowry crimes.
