Govt Pushes Online Gaming Bill In Rajya Sabha Amid Din: Opposition Motion Negated | India Today

The Rajya Sabha has taken up for consideration the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, previously passed by the Lok Sabha. The legislation aims to establish an authority for policy support and regulatory oversight of the online gaming sector. Its objectives include regulating online money games, protecting youth and vulnerable populations from adverse impacts, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the nation’s financial systems and security. The discussion in the house proceeded amidst disruptions from the opposition. An amendment to refer the bill to a Select Committee was negated. During the proceedings, Dr. John Britas, who moved the amendment, stated, "I want to move the motion to protect this country from this." The motion to take the bill into consideration was subsequently adopted, clearing the way for a clause-by-clause review.
