Following a deadly crowd surge at a TVK party rally in Pudukottam, AIADMK General Secretary EPS has stated the government failed in its duty to protect the public. Speaking outside a hospital, he questioned why adequate police security, which is present for rallies of the ruling DMK party and the Chief Minister, was not provided for this event. He suggested that proper security could have prevented the tragedy and also noted that his own AIDMK rallies often lack sufficient police presence. While stating he does not want to resort to a blame game, EPS insisted on accountability, quoting, "However, it is the duty of the government, the Chief Minister and the guards to protect the people of the country. They have failed in that duty. That is why they have lost their lives."
