In a major crackdown on IndiGo following mass flight cancellations, the Civil Aviation Ministry has directed a curtailment of the airline’s operations. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, addressing the crisis in Parliament, stated, ‘No airline however large will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance or non-adherence to statutory provisions.’ The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has cut IndiGo’s winter schedule, impacting daily flights. The report details that IndiGo must submit a fresh schedule by December 10. Meanwhile, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers issued an apology, admitting, ‘We’ve let you down when a major operational disruption happened.’ The airline has processed refunds worth over Rs 750 crore. The government warns of further strict action if the situation does not stabilize immediately.
