'Government Needs To Crack The Whip On DGCA': Sanjay Lazar On Aviation Safety | India Today

Sanjay Lazar, an aviation expert, trainer, and CEO of AviLazar Consultants, has raised serious concerns about India’s aviation regulator being understaffed and unable to keep pace with the industry’s rapid growth. Speaking on India Today, Lazar said, ‘It’s highly, highly alarming that we first of all had three incidents in the last 24 hours.’ He pointed out that the DGCA is understaffed by almost 40 to 50 per cent, which has led to gaps in oversight. Lazar emphasised that audits are not being completed on time and investigation reports are pending for years. He called for structural reform, suggesting that the government should create a special cadre and transform the DGCA into an independent authority. Lazar warned that with India moving towards 3,000 aircraft in five to six years, the country cannot manage this expansion without proper safety oversight and regulatory reform.
