In the wake of the devastating fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora that claimed 25 lives, the Goa government has suspended three senior officials for alleged lapses. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the suspensions of then Director of Panchayat Siddhi Tushar Harlankar, then GSPCB Member Secretary Dr. Shamila Monteiro, and a village panchayat secretary. Speaking on the tragedy, CM Pramod Sawant stated, ‘DGP has directed to take the strict punitive actions against the culprit, including the owner, manager of the club.’ The Chief Minister also announced a high-level committee under the Revenue Secretary to audit similar establishments. Police have arrested the club’s general manager and are searching for owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra.
