A shocking new study warns that the Hindu Kush Himalaya region could lose up to 75% of its glacier ice by 2100 if global temperatures rise by 2°C. This region supports nearly two billion people and feeds major river systems across Asia. Researchers say even at 1.5°C warming, only 40–45% of glacier ice could be saved. Globally, just 24% of glacier mass would remain at 2.7°C, threatening regions like the Alps, Rockies, and Iceland. The study comes as over 50 nations meet at the UN’s first glacier conference in Dushanbe.
