At the Global Fintech Fest 2025 in Mumbai, Gautam Aggarwal, Division President of Mastercard South Asia, said Mastercard has been in India for 40 years and globally for 50 years, pushing digital payments. India is a key market with 10,000 employees, and they’re developing solutions in India for the world. He believes UPI, Mastercard, and cash can all coexist, as each payment method serves a different purpose, and users will choose what’s most convenient. Aggarwal also mentioned Mastercard’s early investments in Indian companies like Razorpay (10-11 years ago), Pine Labs (3-4 years ago), Mu Sigma, and others, showing their commitment to India through minority investments.
