During a public rally, Vijay expressed solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils, stating they have suffered greatly after their leader’s death. Vijay said that Prabhakaran was "like a mother to the Lankan Tamils." He also asserted it is the duty of his party, TVK, to be the voice for the community.
