Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has recommended two changes to the Indian playing eleven ahead of the final against New Zealand. Gavaskar suggests bringing in Rinku Singh in place of Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav for Varun Chakravarthy. He explains that both players being dropped are ‘down on confidence’ and have delivered ‘disappointing performances’. Gavaskar emphasises that in a final, he would prefer players not weighed down by poor form. He also highlights Jasprit Bumrah as the key player, calling him ‘the greatest fast bowler of his generation’ and urging that he be given the new ball to target New Zealand’s openers Tim Allen and Tim Seifert early. Gavaskar notes that New Zealand’s low media pressure and their players’ experience in global T20 leagues make them dangerous opponents in ICC tournaments, despite South Africa having beaten India in the Super 8 stage.
