A major tragedy occurred in Gujarat as the Gambhira bridge in Vadodara, connecting Anand, collapsed, sending vehicles plunging into the Mahisagar river. Over 10 casualties have been reported, including three members of a family. The 50-year-old bridge, which was reportedly repaired last year, was already declared unfit. Prime Minister Modi called the incident ‘deeply saddening’ and announced compensation for the victims’ families. The Chief Minister has ordered a high-level committee to investigate the incident. Rescue operations are underway with teams from Vadodara fire services and the NDRF at the scene. The collapse has raised questions about negligence and accountability, as a Rs. 212 crore replacement for the bridge was approved just three months ago.
