At a historic commissioning ceremony in Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy inducted two advanced stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the event, highlighted this as a significant step towards a self-reliant India in defence production. These warships, built by Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, are equipped with modern systems including Brahmos missiles, surface-to-air missiles, and advanced combat management systems. The Defence Minister made a pivotal announcement regarding India’s commitment to indigenous manufacturing, stating, "it was the last order of foreign made ship for India. When we have decided that in future no ship will be made in foreign land for Indian Navy, we will make our own ship in India."
