Karnataka police decided to register FIRs against drivers exceeding the 130kmph speed limit from Aug 1. Violators could face six months’ imprisonment or a Rs 1,000 fine or both. Speed laser guns and ANPR cameras on highways will enforce this rule, targeting overspeeding, which contributes to 90% of fatal accidents.
