Recent reports indicate that India is exploring the possibility of manufacturing the Russian Su-57 stealth fighter jet, a significant development in its defense strategy. While no official confirmation has been made, discussions around acquiring or co-producing the Su-57 have resurfaced, with posts on X suggesting India’s interest in the jet as a potential stop-gap or complement to its indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program. However, previous concerns about the Su-57’s stealth capabilities, outdated engines, and Russia’s reluctance to share critical technologies led India to pause its involvement in the joint Su-57 (PAK-FA) program in 2018.
If pursued, manufacturing the Su-57 could involve technology transfers and local production, aligning with India’s push for self-reliance in defense under the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative, though challenges like cost, timelines, and technological gaps remain.In a separate development, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi hailed Operation Sindoor as a landmark counter-terrorism operation during a speech at IIT Madras on August 4, 2025. Launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, the 88-hour operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
General Dwivedi described it as a precise, intelligence-driven mission that destroyed nine terrorist hideouts without civilian casualties, showcasing India’s military discipline and readiness for modern warfare. The operation, which also saw the Indian Air Force down five Pakistani fighter jets and one large aircraft using the S-400 system, marked a shift in India’s security doctrine, emphasizing strategic restraint and decisive power
