Relentless monsoon rains in 2025 are causing widespread devastation across northern India. States including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Arunachal Pradesh are hit by flash floods and landslides. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, cloudbursts have led to four deaths and the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar highway. In Himachal Pradesh, the surging Beas river has swept away sections of the Kullu-Manali National Highway. The Vaishnodevi yatra was also temporarily suspended. Many rivers across the region are flowing above the danger mark, forcing people in low-lying areas to evacuate. One person, trying to get to his family, said, "I came to know that there was a flood and water had entered the house."
