Air India and Air India Express have announced a phased increase in fuel surcharges across domestic and international routes, citing steep rises in jet fuel prices due to the geopolitical situation in the Gulf region. For domestic tickets and flights to SAARC nations, the surcharge has been increased by Rs 399. For international destinations, fuel surcharges have risen by $10 for West Asia, $20 for Southeast Asia, and $30 for Africa in phase one. This marks the first time Air India has implemented a fuel surcharge on domestic travel and SAARC destinations. The airlines have been forced to take longer routes due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, adding to operational costs. The surcharge increments will be implemented in two phases, impacting ticket prices across multiple sectors.
