The main market of Thunag in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, has been severely impacted by flash floods that occurred on June 30th. Shops and houses are filled with debris, stones, and mud up to 20 feet high in some areas. Local residents, including a 64-year-old retired teacher, are attempting to clean up and salvage their belongings. The disaster has affected approximately 100 shops in the market. Residents cite illegal mining and unnatural construction projects as potential contributing factors. Relief efforts are underway, with five camps established and an Air Force chopper providing supplies at the Thunag helipad. SDRF and NDRF teams are on the ground for rescue operations. An orange weather alert has been issued, causing concern among the affected population.
