An FIR has been filed by the Crime Branch against MLA Rahul Mangu Tantil on charges of criminal intimidation and stalking. The action follows allegations, first raised by an after-turn model, that the MLA sent offensive messages and made inappropriate invitations. Although no victim has filed a complaint, a Suomoto case was registered based on complaints from politicians, social activists, and a directive from the Child Rights Commission. The FIR alleges he targeted women aged 18 to 60 and even threatened them to conduct abortions. Following the controversy, he resigned as Youth Congress State President and was suspended from the Congress party’s primary membership but continues as an MLA. The party is reportedly hesitant for him to resign, as a by-election eight months before the assembly election would put them in a “tough spot.”
