Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei denied claims of ongoing talks with the United States, stating there have been no negotiations for the past 25 days of what Iran calls an illegal war. Speaking to India Today’s Geeta Mohan, Esmail Baghaei said Iran has a catastrophic experience with US diplomacy, having been attacked twice within nine months while negotiating the nuclear issue. He called this a betrayal of diplomacy, saying no one can trust United States diplomacy. Esmail Baghaei rejected the possibility of mediators facilitating indirect talks, suggesting even the institution of mediation was betrayed by the US. He emphasized that Iran’s armed forces are focused on defending the country’s territory and sovereignty. Addressing concerns about global economic impact and the Strait of Hormuz situation, Esmail Baghaei said the consequences for the world economy are directly because of the United States and Israel’s reckless illegal war imposed on Iran and the region.
