The Election Commission announces assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, covering 824 assembly constituencies with 17.4 crore electors. Approximately 2.19 lakh polling stations will be set up, requiring 25 lakh electoral personnel. The Commission highlights 100% webcasting at all polling stations and various voter facilitation measures including mobile deposit facilities, coloured candidate photographs on EVMs, and priority voting for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Over 30 new initiatives have been introduced in the past year to ensure transparency and voter convenience, including the ECINET app integrating 40 applications. The Commission emphasises consultative approach with over 4,700 all-party meetings held. Enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure inducement-free and violence-free elections. The electoral exercise includes challenging terrain operations, with polling teams trekking through difficult terrains and crossing rivers to reach remote polling stations.
