The Election Commission of India announces the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Around 17.4 crore electors will participate across 824 Assembly constituencies. Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will vote on April 9, Tamil Nadu on April 23, and West Bengal in two phases on April 23 and 29. Counting for all states will be held on May 4, 2026. The Commission conducted special intensive revision to ensure no eligible voter is excluded. Over 2.18 lakh polling stations will be set up with 100 percent webcasting. Around 25 lakh election officials and security personnel will be deployed. The Commission emphasizes transparent, accessible and peaceful elections with new initiatives including mobile deposit facilities, coloured candidate photographs on EVMs, and the ECINet app for stakeholder information.
