The Election Commission of India announces Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, with approximately 17.4 crore electors set to participate. The Commission visited all poll-bound states to review preparedness and met with recognised political parties, district electoral officers, police officials, and enforcement agency nodal officers. A special intensive revision of electoral rolls was conducted under Article 326 of the Constitution to ensure no eligible elector is left out. The Commission highlights that these five states and union territories represent distinct geographical and cultural landscapes of India, reflecting the nation’s unity and diversity. More than 20 countries will send observers from their electoral commissions to witness the elections. The Commission appeals to youth and first-time voters to participate enthusiastically in this democratic exercise.
