External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar recently addressed the India-Central Asia Business Council meeting in New Delhi, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic and strategic ties between India and the Central Asian nations. The council, a collaborative initiative between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the national chambers of commerce from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, serves as a platform to enhance trade and investment partnerships.
In his address, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the need to overcome existing connectivity challenges, proposing the establishment of air corridors to facilitate trade in perishable goods, agricultural products, and food items. He also underscored the strategic significance of the Chabahar Port in Iran as a vital link for Indian goods to access Afghanistan and further into Central Asia, aiming to boost regional trade and economic integration.
