Dr. Majid Hakeem Ilahi, representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, discussed the late Ayatollah Khamenei’s life and martyrdom. He revealed that Ayatollah Khamenei refused security measures, saying ‘If you could provide 90 million cities, safe places for 90 million Iranians, after that I’m ready to leave my house.’ Dr. Elahi explained that Khamenei repeatedly expressed his desire for martyrdom, stating ‘I became an old man. I am 86 years old and I’m scared that I die at hospital… I like to be martyred.’ He disclosed that despite 47 years in high-ranking positions, Ayatollah Khamenei never owned a house, and none of his four sons have their own homes. Dr. Elahi described the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, as highly intellectual and living a simple life, borrowing money mid-month for household expenses. He emphasized that Mojtaba was chosen by the 88-member Assembly of Experts based on qualifications, not dynastic succession.
