Speaking at the India Today AI Summit in New Delhi, OpenAI’s Chief Economist, Dr Aaron Ronnie Chatterji, affirmed that artificial intelligence is delivering tangible value and is not a bubble. He highlighted India’s significant role, noting the country constitutes 100 million of OpenAI’s 900 million weekly active users and is one of its fastest-growing markets. Dr. Chatterji stated that while the global AI race requires substantial infrastructure investment, India’s annual output of over a million STEM graduates offers a unique competitive advantage. He argued that AI is currently complementing rather than replacing the labor market, emphasizing that upskilling is critical. To ensure growth, he identified the need for a skilled workforce, local energy development, and streamlined infrastructure permitting. Dr. Chatterji also underscored OpenAI’s commitment to democratizing AI access to prevent a digital divide and mentioned a ‘child safety blueprint’ to address safety concerns.
