US President Donald Trump has criticised NATO allies after they refused to assist in escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, saying ‘we don’t need any help from NATO’. Trump stated that NATO countries have snubbed American requests to participate in wider conflict operations against Iran. He claimed the US has taken down Iran’s navy, air force, radar systems and leadership, declaring ‘their leaders are gone’. Trump suggested NATO allies work for their own benefits while America ‘pumps in money’ and protects them without receiving support in return. Germany’s Defence Minister reportedly stated Germany has no intention of joining US and Israeli military operations. The refusal by NATO partners has exposed visible cracks in the alliance, with European countries citing economic concerns and uncertainty about the operation’s objectives and duration as reasons for not participating.
