U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him that India would stop purchasing oil from Russia. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I spoke with Prime Minister Modi of India, and he said he’s not going to be doing the Russian oil thing.” When asked about India’s claim that it was unaware of any such discussion, Trump responded that if New Delhi denied the conversation, it would continue paying “massive tariffs,” something he said India would prefer to avoid.
