Diwali Bonanza: 3% DA Increase for Central Government Staff
The Modi government has approved a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners, bringing the DA rate from 50% to 53% of basic salary.
This increase will benefit over 49 lakh central government employees and around 64 lakh pensioners, including junior-level staff and high-ranking officials. Retired government employees will also receive a similar benefit, with their pensions adjusted upward according to the new DA rate. The new DA rate will take effect from July 1, 2024, and employees and pensioners will be eligible for arrears from July, which will be disbursed in the coming months. The DA increase is significant during Diwali, as it helps employees and pensioners meet festive expenses without stretching their budgets. The announcement also has a positive psychological impact, as it creates a festive atmosphere where people can celebrate without worrying about rising costs.
