A political controversy has erupted in Karnataka’s Dharmasthala after a masked man, Chinnaya, was arrested. His earlier allegations of burying hundreds of bodies over 15 years in the temple town were found to be false by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Following his arrest, the BJP has alleged a conspiracy to malign the Shri Manjunatha Swami temple administration. The party organised a ‘Dharmasthala Chalo’ protest, demanding the case be transferred to a central body like the NIA or CBI for investigation. A BJP leader stated, "The conspirators who are behind this they needs to be punished. There should be a NIA or CBI investigation in the entire episode only then truth will be truth will come out." The ruling Congress party has dismissed the BJP’s protest and has decided not to transfer the probe from the SIT. The central questions remain why the false allegations were made and who was behind the conspiracy.
