The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of buried bodies in Dharmasthala has arrested the complainant for providing false information. The arrest of the ‘masked man’ came after an extensive investigation, where the SIT excavated 16 spots, some as deep as 25 feet, but found no conclusive evidence to support his claims. The case created a political controversy in Karnataka, with the BJP accusing the Congress government of an agenda to defame the religious centre. A Congress spokesperson responded to the arrest, stating, "if the motive is to malign the temple or the management or the people who are running it, let it be proved in investigation and he should be punished." The government had established the SIT after the man confessed to police and in court to burying bodies.
