The Karnataka government has responded to demands from activists and progressive groups by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the claims. Protests demanding justice for the victims have led to confrontations, with demonstrators being stopped by devotees who accused them of defaming the sacred site. The issue has also gained political traction, with former Chief Ministers commenting on the matter. According to the government, the SIT was formed following demands from activists and will "enquire what is the truth behind all these allegations".
