Deepak Borade, a leader of the Dhangar community, is on an eight-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, demanding reservation for his community. Borade states he has been protesting for 12 years on this demand. He claims that after a 16-day hunger strike on September 24, a written statement was given promising reservation within 15 days, but it was not fulfilled. Following this, the community held what Borade describes as the biggest Dhangar protest in the country on September 25. Despite long meetings with Chief Minister Fadnavis in Baramati and on March 13 in Mumbai, Borade says the issue remains unresolved. He threatens to stop drinking water from tomorrow if the government does not respond. Borade asserts that the Dhangar community, numbering two and a half to three crore in Maharashtra, played a significant role in bringing the BJP government to power, with around 80 percent associated with the party. The protest continues with supporters gathering from across Maharashtra.
