A deadly car bomb attack near Delhi’s Red Fort resulted in ten fatalities and 25 injuries, prompting a multi-state investigation now led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Probes have uncovered a ‘white-collar’ terror plot allegedly involving highly educated doctors radicalized by the Pakistan-based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. The investigation, spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, is being monitored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The alleged suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Muhammad, is believed to have detonated the explosive-laden vehicle. The attack is suspected to be linked to a wider conspiracy for multi-city attacks, possibly in retaliation for ‘Operation Sindoor’. The probe originated after J&K Police busted the module, leading to arrests, including alleged ringleader Dr. Shaheen Shahid, and the seizure of a large cache of explosives.
