Delhi Floods: Yamuna Submerges Homes, Govt Calls Residents Encroachers | India Today News

The national capital is facing a severe flood situation as the Yamuna river flows well above the danger mark, inundating several low-lying areas. This report from Yamuna Bazaar shows entire residential colonies submerged, with only the rooftops of houses visible. Residents have been forced to take shelter on their roofs or in boats, stranded without essentials. The flooding has also severely affected areas like Majnuka Teela, the monastery area, and Gita Colony. While people have been evacuated to temporary shelters, the Delhi Irrigation and Flood in Charge Minister stated that the affected people are encroachers on the river’s embankment. The minister also said the government is prepared for the situation, stating, “100% we are prepared and all situations are under control.” The continuous release of water from the Hathinikon Barrage is contributing to the rising water levels.
