Delhi Flood Alert: Yamuna Breaches Danger Mark, Recalling July 2023 Horrors | India Today News

A flood alert is in effect for Delhi NCR as the Yamuna river has crossed the danger mark, bringing back memories of the July 2023 floods. Continuous rainfall and massive water discharges from the Hathnikund, Wazirabad, and Okhla barrages have worsened the situation. The water level stood at 206.80 meters, prompting evacuations in low-lying areas like Yamuna Bazaar, with families being moved to temporary relief camps. Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad are closed as a precautionary measure. Amid the crisis, the government stated its position on residents in the affected areas. A government representative said, "The government has said clearly that these are encroachments. The water hasn’t entered the houses of people. The people are living where the water is usually naturally flowing." Disaster management teams are on standby as the capital remains on edge.
