Delhi CM Rekha Gupta On Balancing Diwali Sentiments And Pollution Control | India Today News

The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will petition the Supreme Court to allow the use of certified green crackers during Diwali. This move aims to balance public sentiment with environmental protection. A statement from the Chief Minister read, ‘Respecting the sentiments of the people of Delhi, the Delhi government will request the Honourable Supreme Court to allow the use of certified green crackers this Diwali.’ The government has committed to ensuring that all green firecrackers are manufactured by authorized organizations and certified by competent departments. This approach contrasts with the previous Aam Aadmi Party government’s strict ban on all firecrackers. Green crackers are known to contain fewer harmful chemicals, thereby reducing pollution compared to traditional fireworks. The Supreme Court previously permitted the manufacture of green crackers but banned their sale in the national capital.
