A senior finance ministry official, Navjot Singh, was killed and his wife critically injured after their motorcycle was hit by a BMW near Dholakua in Delhi. Singh was serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs. The driver of the car has been identified as Gagandeep Makkar. The victim’s son alleges his parents were deliberately taken to a hospital 19 kilometres away, which he claims is linked to the accused, instead of nearer, better-equipped facilities. The son, Navnoor, stated, "the collision may have been an accident but the things that followed later was nothing short of a murder". Following these allegations and a statement from the injured wife, Delhi police have added charges including destruction of evidence and death by negligence to the case. The accused was also hospitalized following the crash.
