Delhi Blast: 'Mother of Satan' Explosive Used By Suicide Bomber, Say Investigators | India Today

This special report focuses on the explosive TATP, or triacetone triperoxide, allegedly used in the recent Delhi Red Fort blast by a suicide bomber identified as Umar. Nicknamed ‘Mother of Satan’, TATP is a highly volatile and dangerous homemade explosive used in major global terror attacks, including the 2005 London bombings, 2015 Paris attacks, and 2019 Sri Lanka bombings. The bulletin explains that ‘one of the biggest concerns for global agencies is that the chemicals linked to TATP have common industrial and even household use’. Because it contains no nitrogen, it is difficult to detect with conventional scanners, forcing investigators to rely on fragments and other residues for evidence. Officials state that TATP can deliver up to 80% of TNT’s explosive power, making it a significant threat for security agencies worldwide.
