Following Diwali celebrations, Delhi’s air quality has significantly deteriorated, despite a ban on firecrackers. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached severe levels, with readings of 300 to 400 in many areas. The pollution levels have increased three to four times the concentration, with PM 2.5 and PM 10 particles reaching dangerous levels. The Supreme Court’s cracker ban appears to have been widely flouted, leading to a major dip in air quality. The situation is similar in other parts of the Delhi NCR region.
