The Supreme Court has questioned the Karnataka High Court’s decision to grant bail to actor Darshan, an accused in the June 2024 Renuka Swamy murder case. In a strongly worded order, the apex court described the high court’s move as a "deeply disturbing" and "perverse exercise of discretion". The Supreme Court asked the lower court, "Is this how you give bail?" Darshan, a Sandalwood star, is accused in the alleged kidnap, torture, and murder of 33-year-old Renuka Swamy. The court stated it would not commit the same mistake as the high court, rebuking the release of the murder-accused actor. The apex court’s order characterized the high court’s action as a "perverse exercise of judicial power".
