Debating The AI-171 Crash Report: What Went Wrong With The Doomed Flight?
The preliminary report on the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 has revealed chilling details of what unfolded in just over a minute. The flight sent out a MAYDAY call just 92 seconds after takeoff, with ATC having cleared it at 13:37 — and the crash occurred by 13:39.
The 15-page report, based on nine radio transmissions, shows that both engines lost power barely eight seconds after takeoff, raising serious questions about what went wrong. Shockingly, the fuel cut-off switches were moved mid-air, and the pilot was heard asking, “Why did you cut off?” before the crash.
No evidence of a bird strike or obstacle was found in the flight path, ruling out external physical factors. Aviation experts suggest a cascading technical failure may have occurred, but also point out that sabotage cannot yet be ruled out, given the inexplicable activation of fuel cut-off switches in mid-air — just seconds after liftoff.
The report leaves open a crucial question: was this catastrophic system failure the result of sabotage or an internal error? The investigation continues.
