India and China held their first ever bilateral meeting in over 5 years….and while many are tonight either sceptical or rejoicing by the fact that the talks have begun, I for one am a realist and a pragmatist…which is why I believe that while its a good thing that India and China are finally talking..we also must never forget that there is a lot to work upon to restore the balance….Of Course to those who have minutely studied the statements crafted today will understand that India has not taken the bait this time….India has made it amply clear, that until and unless there is strict adherence to the disengagement along the LAC, no normalisation talks can proceed…This was also reflected in the statement of the Indian Army’s chief yesterday…but the most important takeaway for the Chinese side from this bilateral meeting has to be the fact that this is not the same Modi they are dealing with whom they met in Mamallapuram in 2019…This is Modi 3.0, who has seen through over a decade of first class diplomacy, from free trade agreements, to surgical strikes, to regional coalitions and not just leading but winning over support from all sides in a multipolar world….which is why it is in the best interest of China to go back to the pre-galwan situation in India, for its own sake, because in a matter of just 3 to 4 years, India will become the 3rd largest economy in the world behind China and the U.S…and the gap is only closing in between India and China….be it India’s growth rate which is pegged at 7% versus the 4.7% of China….or be it India’s defence expenditure which makes it the 4th largest spender in the world…..or be it India’s trade relations with over 115 nations on the planet…India is becoming a force to recon with….which is why China must reflect when India says that this new innings of India-China relationship must be based upon ‘Mutual Respect’…..to spell it out for the chinese, it simply means, that China cannot be working against India’s territorial sovereignty and national interest, while it expects India to work with China….Which is why I firmly believe that the Chinese must officially commit that they will stop undermining India’s sovereign interests by working with Pakistan….China must also commit that it will not aid, abet or support any terror organisation operating out of Myanmar, Pakistan or Chinese soil….Terror and talks cannot go hand in hand, and that rule applies to all….
