Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has stated that he has given the Defense Department instructions to halt all airstrikes against Iranian energy infrastructure and power facilities for five days. In a Truth Social post, he stated that this depends on the "success" of continuing "meetings and discussions."
Washington and Tehran have had "very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East" during the past two days, according to Trump.
Trump announced on Saturday that he would give Iran 48 hours, until just before midnight GMT on Monday, to open the strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway that is essentially sealed by Iran and transports some 25% of the world’s supplies of liquefied natural gas and oil.
