The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, tabled today, proposes to rename the Waqf Act, 1995 as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act. Kiren Rijiju launched a strong critique against the INDIA bloc for its objections to the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024. Rijiju highlighted that the NDA government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is achieving reforms that the previous Congress-led UPA alliance failed to implement during its tenure. Kiren Rijiju emphasized that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is working to correct past mistakes through extensive consultations on a new bill. Criticizing the Congress party, he stated, "We bring this bill to tell the people of the country that we could do, whatever you could not ever do. Support this bill, I appeal to everyone because it will get you blessings of crores of people."
Rijiju highlighted that the bill is based on the Sachar committee report, which was initiated by the Congress to recommend reforms for the Muslim community. "This bill being brought today is based on the report of the Sachar committee which you made," he noted.
