Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel is set to transform India-Israel relations from a buyer-seller dynamic to a strategic high-tech partnership. Lauren Dagan Amoss, senior researcher at the Begin Sarath Centre for Strategic Studies, emphasised that ‘long-term industrial cooperation is the key focus’ with particular attention on drone technology, counter-drone defence systems and air defence capabilities. Former diplomat Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty noted that the relationship has evolved significantly since 1992, stating ‘the next phase would be more joint production’ in high-tech defence sectors. Sandeep Unnithan highlighted that this visit, coming after the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, represents a shift towards ’embedding each other in each other’s military-industrial complexes’ beyond traditional defence procurement. The visit will also focus on AI and quantum collaboration, agricultural technology, and a potential free trade agreement between the two nations.
